Device unlock check

To use an eSIM, your phone must be carrier-unlocked. This guide explains how to verify your device's unlock status depending on your platform and configuration. We encourage you to read it carefully and follow the steps that apply to your device, as this will help you determine whether your phone can support eSIM installation.

1) General requirement

An eSIM can only be installed on a carrier-unlocked device.

If your phone is locked to a mobile operator, eSIM installation from another provider will fail. In this case, you must contact your original carrier to request an unlock.

2) Apple devices (iPhone)

Check the Carrier Lock status in your iPhone settings.

How to Check

Go to Settings → General → About
Scroll down to Carrier Lock

Results

"No SIM restrictions" → Device is unlocked
Any other status (for example, "SIM locked") → Device is carrier-locked

If your iPhone is carrier-locked, you will not be able to install an eSIM. Please contact your mobile operator for further assistance.

3) Android devices

The method depends on whether your device has a physical SIM slot or is eSIM-only. Choose the instructions that match your device type.

A) Android phone WITH a physical SIM slot

What You Need

A physical SIM card from another carrier (any valid SIM)

What to Do

Power off the phone
Insert the SIM card from a different carrier
Power on the phone
Wait up to 2 minutes

Result

Option 1: Signal or carrier name appears → Phone is unlocked
Option 2: Unlock PIN request, "SIM not allowed", or no service → Phone is carrier-locked

B) Android phone WITHOUT a physical SIM slot (eSIM-only)

There is no system menu or code that reliably shows unlock status on eSIM-only Android devices. A real eSIM test is required.

What You Need

An eSIM QR code from a third-party provider (not the original carrier)
The eSIM must support your current country

What to Do

Go to Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs
Tap Add eSIM / Download a SIM
Scan the QR code and install the eSIM
Enable the eSIM
Wait 2–3 minutes

Result

Option 1: eSIM connects to a mobile network → Phone is unlocked
Option 2: eSIM installation is blocked, fails immediately, or installs but shows no service → Phone is carrier-locked

4) Important notes

Only a real network connection proves unlock status.

IMEI checks, carrier support responses, and Android system menus are not reliable indicators of unlock status. A factory reset does not remove a carrier lock. Only a successful connection to a non-original carrier confirms that the device is unlocked.

If your device is confirmed as carrier-locked, please contact your original mobile operator to request an official unlock.
